Since June in 2012, a series of meetings related with FOCAC have been held in Beijing, which has aroused a trend of Africa. The second Africa-China Young Leaders Forum grandly opened in Beijing, and brought together China World Peace Foundation and more than 200 representatives including African heads of state, former politicians, and representatives from NGOs, academic, business and media circles in Beijing to discuss issues on China-Africa cooperation and youth development. Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. The fifth ministerial conference of FOCAC was grandly held in Great Hall of People from July 19th to July 20th. President Hu Jintao delivered an importan speech titled “opening up a new situation for new China-Africa strategic partnership”.
During this forum, China World Peace Foundation, China-Cote D’Ivoire Friendship Association, China-Senegal Friendship Association, China-Morocco Ibn Battuta Friendship Association, China-Tunisia Enterprise Association had become a platform for China-Africa cooperation. On June 20th, China World Peace Foundation cooperated with International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, holding the event of planting “China-Africa Friendship Trees” in Peace Garden. The young leaders and some diplomatic envoys from 38 African countries gathered in Peace Garden, and planted 38 Lagerstroemia Indica tress that representing their respective countries, which became a testimony for the successful host of FOCAC.
African embassies also held a series of interactive activities for visiting state heads and Chinese entrepreneurs. At the invitation of H.E. President of Cote D’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara, Chairman Li Ruohong leading some Chinese business executives attended the meeting held for Chinese entrepreneurs and representatives from different aspects on the morning of July 20th. H.E. President Ouattara stated that the ten-year political turmoil in Cote D’Ivoire has been ended and now it is stable and safe with the urgent investment on industry, agriculture, mining, energy, housing, infrastructure, tourism and other fields.
During the forum and other activities, Chairman Li Ruohong presents his book NGOs in China to H.E. former President of Mozambique Joaquim Alberto Chissano, First Lady Sadat in Sudan, and H.E. President of Cote D’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara respectively. They all extended thanks to China World Peace Foundation for the contribution to foster China-Africa friendship and exchanges, and hoped that the cooperation on infrastructure construction, agriculture and economic trading would be advanced, and themed or personalized diplomatic activities in the fields of society, culture and economy would be carried out.
